Meeks, Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, along with all Subcommittee Ranking Members, issued a joint statement on the Trump administration’s elimination of nearly all U.S. foreign assistance programs, including life-saving humanitarian assistance:

Adam Smith (D-Wash.) led Members in their respective committees today in a letter urging President Donald Trump to stop supporting Vladimir Putin's illegal war, on the heels of the United States siding with Russia and breaking with longstanding allies at the United Nations earlier this week.

Meeks, Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, issued the following statement concerning the Trump administration’s reversal of a Biden-era regulation which helped protect U.S. arms transfers from being misused by foreign partners in violation of human rights:

Washington, D.C. – Representatives Gregory W. Meeks, Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee; Lois Frankel; Sara Jacobs; Joaquin Castro; and Senator Cory Booker today issued a letter to President Donald Trump stating that he cannot effectively eliminate the United States African Development Foundation (USADF) by Executive Order, given that USADF is statutorily authorized by Congress. The letter cites U.S. statute which makes explicit that USADF can only be dissolved by an Act of Congress.
