As the summer draws to a close, students nationwide are preparing to head back to school. As I prepare to head back to DC during the next few weeks, I would like to update my constituents about the changes that Congress has made with regard to educational reform. The issues I will address include early childhood education/head start, elementary and secondary education, and higher education.

Washington, DCCongressman Gregory W. Meeks (D-NY) of the Sixth Congressional District released the following statement today on the Grutter & Gratz decision, Yesterday the Supreme Court in the 5 to 4 ruling (Grutter v Bollinger) issued a landmark decision upholding the University of Michigan Law Schools admission policy aimed at enhancing the racial diversity of it student body.

In the ruins of the Al Hamra housing complex in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, terrorism claimed at least 34 more innocent victims, including 7 Americans. More than 200 others were wounded, many seriously. The number of fatalities is certain to increase as rescue crews search the rubble.

I condemn this bloodletting and any ideological proposition, which may be used to justify it.

Mr. Chairman,

I rise today to express my concern and opposition to the huge, unfair and illogical tax cut which the majority just propelled through the House today. I listened to the debate this morning and I had to wonder how long would it take before we, as a body, realize that this tax cut is nothing more than the 2001 tax cut in 2003 clothes.

I rise in opposition to H. J. Resolution 114.

Fellow members and the American people, today we have an opportunity to debate an issue that is of great importance. An issue that involves both the known and unknown consequences that only a war can produce, for America, the Middle East, and indeed the entire world.
