U.S. Rep Gregory W. Meeks Statement on Missed Votes
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Gregory W. Meeks released the following statement regarding his missed votes in the House this week:
"I have missed a few votes recently because I have been balancing my obligations as a member of Congress with my obligations to my family. My ninety year-old father is hospitalized and seriously ill, but my family is grateful for his strength and grace, and thanks all who have offered kind words and prayers.
"Yesterday I also had a medical issue to confront when I was rushed to the hospital after experiencing chest pain. In a short time my doctors informed me that I had a blocked artery which caused a mild heart attack. The doctors successfully placed a stent in my artery to clear it. I expect to return to work in a few days. I hope my experience can heighten awareness about heart disease and the importance of knowing the signs of a heart episode. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, claiming more lives than all forms of cancer combined. Fortunately, it is also a preventable and treatable disease."
