Rep. Meeks Statement on the Resolution Condemning Great Replacement Theory

June 15, 2022

Washington, D.C. - Today, Congressman Gregory W. Meeks released a statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution condemning the great replacement theory. Rep. Meeks stated:

“On May 14th, we witnessed a disturbing act of violence in the name of preserving white supremacy in Buffalo, NY. The great replacement conspiracy theory, built out of hate and fear, is detrimental to the beautifully diverse and culturally dense communities in America. The condemnation of the normalization of this ideology is crucial in standing against the racist, xenophobic, Islamophobic, and antisemitic ideals of white supremacy.

“In the act of this condemnation, we also remember and commemorate the 10 victims who needlessly lost their lives to the deep-rooted, hateful agenda encouraged by extremists and white supremacists. We will remember these names – Roberta Drury, Margus Morrison, Andre Mackneil, Aaron Salter, Geraldine Talley, Celestine Chaney, Heyward Patterson, Katherine Massey, Pearl Young, Ruth Whitfield – as this atrocity must not be forgotten,” said Congressman Gregory W. Meeks.
