Rep. Meeks Secures Funding for District Projects as Part of House Democrats’ INVEST in America Act

July 1, 2021

The INVEST in America Act will create good-paying jobs modernizing and rebuilding our roads, bridges, transit, rail, and drinking water and wastewater systems

Washington, D.C. - Today, Congressman Gregory W. Meeks issued the following statement after the passage of H.R. 3684, the INVEST in America Act, which reauthorizes surface transportation programs and modernizes the nation's roads, bridges, rail, transit, and water infrastructure:

"My Democratic colleagues took a bold step in reinvesting in America's infrastructure, American workers, and America's future. I am excited to announce that two of my requests for funding towards the Van Wyck Expressway Access Improvement to JFK, and for funding to address flooding in Southeast Queens have been included in this package. These projects were funded to the tune of $16.1m and $3.8m respectively.

"For years, critical infrastructure needs have not been addressed adequately. This was only exacerbated during the pandemic, with Queens being one of the hardest hit areas when New York City was the epicenter. Completion of these projects will be a key component to an equitable recovery in my district," said Congressman Gregory W. Meeks.

The INVEST in America Act is House Democrats' first step toward making President Biden's infrastructure vision a reality.
