Rep. Meeks Awarded Woodrow Wilson Award for Public Service

October 1, 2020

Washington, DC – Congressman Gregory W. Meeks, Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Financial Institutions and senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, was presented today with the Woodrow Wilson Award for Public Service by the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.

"I am incredibly honored to receive the Woodrow Wilson Award for Public Service. This pandemic has only reinforced the structural inequities that have long existed in our nation, particularly for people of color and low income communities. It has also revealed the urgent need to restore America's cooperation with our international allies to address head on the global issues that we all face, whether they be economic, environmental, or health related. Now more than ever, we must work to repair our multilateral institutions, and practice at home the values we preach abroad so as to repair American credibility. As so many of the exceptional individuals who have received this award before me, I am always mindful of the responsibility that those in public service have to promote justice and opportunity for all," said Congressman Gregory W. Meeks.

Also awarded with the Woodrow Wilson Award for Public Service alongside Congressman Meeks were Secretary of the Treasury Steve Mnuchin, European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde, and Chairman of the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee Mike Crapo.

The Woodrow Wilson Award for Public Service is given to individuals who have served with distinction in public life and have shown a special commitment to seeking out informed opinions and thoughtful views. Recipients of this award share Woodrow Wilson's steadfast belief in public discourse, scholarship, and the extension of the benefits of knowledge in the United States and around the world.
