Rep. Gregory W. Meeks Statement on Voting Against GOP Tax Scam

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Gregory W. Meeks issued the following statement after voting against the reckless and cruel GOP Tax Scam.  

“Today, House Republicans passed their dangerous, immoral reconciliation bill that strips healthcare from nearly 14 million people, takes food out of the mouths of children, neglects our seniors and raises costs across the board for the poorest 10% of households in this country.    

 

Despite moving this extreme bill under cover of night, House Democrats fought non-stop to shine a light on the deal Republicans were hell-bent on striking – tax cuts for billionaires in exchange for your family’s access to quality healthcare, your children and grandchildren’s access to food, and your community’s ability to get needed federal support.   

 

Look let’s be clear: Trump’s Big Ugly Bill isn’t about helping the working families in NY-05, it is an assault on our values, our families, and the future. I stand ready and committed to fighting with every available tool to prevent this scam from becoming a reality.”
