Rep. Gregory W. Meeks’ Statement on Passage of Continuing Resolution

November 15, 2023

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congressman Gregory W. Meeks (NY-05) released the following statement following the House Floor Vote on the continuing resolution (CR) to fund the government into 2024.

“House Democrats remain steadfast in prioritizing people over politics and seeking common ground with Republicans while resisting extremism.

“By no means is this a perfect solution. Yet, we could not allow Republican’s dysfunction lead to a government shutdown and harm hardworking American families. This continuing resolution maintains 2023 spending levels and is devoid of extreme cuts and policy riders.

“I am deeply disappointed that this measure did not include the urgent funding necessary to support Israel, Ukraine and Taiwan, but I remain committed to pursuing bipartisan efforts to deliver on President Biden's supplemental requests.

“I call on my Republican colleagues to work with House Democrats on all appropriations bills in line with the Bipartisan Fiscal Responsibility Act, to deliver necessary support for our allies, provide humanitarian aid to innocent Palestinians in Gaza, and ensure American families get the resources they need.”
