Rep. Gregory W. Meeks Statement Marking Three Years After the January 6 Capitol Attack
QUEENS, NY - Today, Congressman Gregory W. Meeks (NY-05) released the following statement marking three years following the January 6th insurrection:
“The violent January 6th assault on our Capitol serves as a stark reminder of the crucial importance of democracy in our society. More than 2,000 insurrectionists violently stormed the Capitol on Donald Trump’s orders to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power and overturn the results of President Joe Biden winning the 2020 election.
“MAGA extremists brutally assaulted more than 140 law enforcement officials defending the People’s House, resulting in five deaths and hundreds of injuries. It is imperative that we unite as a nation, transcending political divides, to preserve our democracy and ensure this never happens again! The events of that day emphasize the responsibility we all share in upholding the principles that define our country. By collectively condemning violence, we can work towards building a stronger foundation for future generations.”
