WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Gregory W. Meeks (NY-05) released the following statement on the failed attempt to impeach the U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas.

“The sham impeachment of Secretary Mayorkas is yet another political stunt pulled by House Republicans. MAGA Republicans have demonstrated once again they are working for Donald Trump’s interests instead of the American people’s. Meanwhile, conservative legal scholars and Senate Republicans have recognized this impeachment for what it is: A political game that prioritizes stunts over solutions.

“My Democratic colleagues and I know that bipartisan, comprehensive legislation that will make the border more secure and promote legal pathways to entering the U.S. is the answer. The attempt to impeach Mayorkas distracts from these goals and creates unnecessary chaos. We must continue to push for solutions to fix our broken immigration system.”
