Rep. Gregory W. Meeks Sends Letter to the Biden-Harris Administration and Department of Homeland Secretary to Grant Temporary Protected Status to Venezuelans

December 22, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C.Today, Rep. Gregory W. Meeks (NY-05), Rep. Yvette D. Clarke (NY-09), Rep. Jerrold Nadler (NY-10), submitted a letter to the Biden-Harris Administration and the Department of Homeland (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas urging them to grant Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to Venezuelans who entered the U.S. after March 9, 2021 and expedite their work authorization.

“It is critical that Venezuelans have the resources they need to succeed in the United States following their native country experiencing the largest economic collapse outside of war in the last 45 years,” Rep. Meeks said. “We recognize the Administration’s recent effort to provide a legal pathway and assist with the protection of Venezuelans as they transition into the United States, but more needs to be done to ensure they have the adequate documents to enter the workforce and contribute to the U.S. economy.”

Rep. Meeks, Rep. Clarke and Rep. Nadler are joined by 29 other members of the Democratic Caucus as cosigners of the letter.
