February 27, 2024

QUEENS, NYU.S. Rep. Gregory W. Meeks (NY-05) and the USPS held a ceremony to unveil the stamp of Rep. John Lewis and commemorate Black History Month.

"I had the honor of serving in Congress with my dear friend and colleague, John Robert Lewis for 22 years,” said Rep. Meeks. “It has been a privilege to partner with the USPS and the Jamaica Postmaster, Dermot Tuohy, for today’s event. The stamp truly memorializes Lewis and his contributions to the Civil Rights movement. His lifelong commitment to achieving equality and justice for Black Americans will never be forgotten.”

Meeks was joined by New York’s Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado, who offered his remarks on the remarkable accomplishments of Lewis.

“Incredibly humbled to join my friend, Congressman Meeks, and the USPS in Queens to unveil the John Lewis stamp,” said Lieutenant Governor Delgado. “His life was a profound example of what it means to lead with love. Mr. Lewis was a moral leader for the ages, with a commitment to faith and unity that was unyielding, no matter how difficult the moment, no matter how intense the hate. May we all take inspiration from his undying legacy."
