Rep. Gregory W. Meeks and USPS Hold Unveiling Ceremony of Constance Baker Motley Stamp

March 19, 2025

Queens, N.Y. – U.S. Rep. Gregory W. Meeks (NY-05) and USPS recognized Constance Baker Motley during a stamp unveiling ceremony in Southeast Queens.

Constance Baker Motley was the first African American woman appointed to the federal judiciary, elected to the New York State Senate, and the first woman to serve as the Manhattan Borough President.

“Motley broke many barriers throughout her career to reach her level of success including her nomination to serve as a Justice in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York,” Rep. Meeks said. “Her career serves as an inspiration to other powerful women such as Supreme Court Judge Kentanji Brown Jackson and Former Vice President Kamala Harris. This USPS stamp honors her lifelong commitment to the justice system.”

More than 200 people attended the event. Entertainment was provided by the Bartlett Contemporaries.
