Rep. Gregory Meeks Announces the Passage of FY23 Omnibus with $16.3 Million in Local Community Project Funding

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Gregory W. Meeks (NY-05) voted in favor of the 2023 omnibus government funding package that delivers $1.7 trillion in historic investments in working families and New York communities. This legislation takes vital strides forward in House Democrats' fight to protect New Yorkers health care, honor the service of our nation's veterans and provide more than $16.3 million to support important local community projects in New York’s 5th Congressional District. Previously advanced by the Senate, this legislation now heads to the President's desk to be signed into law.

This year's government funding legislation will enact a range of key Democratic priorities, including significant investments to:
Protect Health Coverage for New York Children enrolled in Medicaid and CHIP.
Support Pregnant New Yorkers by permanently authorizing postpartum Medicaid coverage, delivering historic funding for the Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting initiative, and cracking down on workplace discrimination
Bolster Mental Health Services by expanding access to treatment and investing in New York’s mental health workforce.
Enact the PREVENT Pandemics Act, using lessons learned from COVID-19 to improve New York's preparedness for future public health emergencies.
Strengthen Veterans' Health Care through $21 billion in new funding.
Provide New York Kids with Healthy, Nutritious Food throughout the summer with a nationwide, permanent Summer EBT Program.
Advance Justice for Americans Impacted by Terrorism with the Fairness for 9/11 Families Act.
Additionally, Rep. Meeks secured $16,308,908 in Community Project Funding to directly support 15 local projects in New York’s 5th Congressional District, which are:
$154,000 for the Alpha Phi Alpha Senior Citizens Center, Inc., Cambria Heights, NY for assisted transportation services.
$1,275,750 for the Black Spectrum Theatre Co., Jamaica, NY for an African American history program.
$150,000 for the Chhaya Small Business Assistance Program.
$1,267,500 for the CUNY York College, Queens, NY for geology and environmental science programs, including student stipends and equipment.
$850,000 for the CUNY York College, Queens, NY for pharmaceutical science workforce training, including equipment.
$2,000,000 for the GJDC Small Batch Manufacturing Development.
$364,558 for the Haitian Americans United for Progress, Hollis, NY for youth leadership and youth workforce programming.
$2,400,000 for the Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, Jamaica, NY for needed neurosurgery and orthopedic surgery operating room equipment.
$1,905,000 for the Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, Jamaica, NY for a surgical robotics system.
$325,000 for the Joseph P. Addabbo Family Health Center, Inc., New York, NYto create a Diabetes Wellness Center.
$360,100 for the Long Island Cares, Hauppauge, NY for the purchase of food and social services and connect individuals to referral and benefits programs and reduce poverty.
$1,000,000 for the Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty, New York, NY for food and services for seniors.
$257,000 for the Roxbury Volunteer Emergency Services, Inc., New York, NY for a new ambulance.
$3,000,000 for the St. John's Episcopal Hospital, Episcopal Health Services Inc., Far Rockaway, NY to improve the Behavioral Health Inpatient Unit at the hospital.
$1,000,000 for the YMCA of Greater New York, NY for youth support and enrichment programs.
