Meeks Statement on SEC’s Approval for New Board Diversity Standards and Disclosures

August 6, 2021

Washington, D.C. - Today, Congressman Gregory W. Meeks, Senior Member of the Financial Services Committee, released the following statement on the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)'s Adoption of Nasdaq's Board Diversity Proposal:

"I applaud the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)'s adoption of the Nasdaq Board Diversity proposal, which will bring meaningful accountability to corporate board rooms. As the SEC noted, investors are increasingly seeking out more information around diversity, and because of this need, I have continued to fight for closing the wealth gap through greater transparency. I am proud my bill, the Improving Corporate Governance Through Diversity Act, which was first introduced in 2017, passed the House as a part of a larger package this Congress, and the SEC's adoption of the Nasdaq proposal is an important additional step for bringing true inclusivity to corporate America."
