Meeks Statement on President Biden’s Nomination of Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court

February 25, 2022

Washington, DC - Today, Congressman Gregory W. Meeks released a statement supporting President Biden’s nomination of D.C. Circuit Court Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the U.S. Supreme Court.  Congressman Meeks stated:

“To realize a more perfect union, our democratic institutions must reflect the diversity of our Nation. Accordingly, I applaud President Biden's historic nomination of Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court. While she will inspire generations of Black women to come, she’ll also add value to the Court and broaden its perspective given her legal background as a public defender and her strong record as a District and Circuit Court Judge. There’s no doubt that she has the intellect, discretion, and record to serve this Nation well at the highest level of our judiciary system. I look forward to Judge Brown’s swift and successful confirmation in the U.S. Senate.”

On President’s Day, Congressman Meeks published an opinion piece in The Hillarguing against critics of President Biden’s pledge to appoint a Black woman to the Supreme Court. While citing Brown as an exemplary potential choice, Congressman Meeks discussed the importance of diverse representation as a cornerstone of our democracy.
