Meeks’ Statement on the Passage of the Build Back Better Act

November 19, 2021

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Gregory W. Meeks (NY-05) released the following statement on the passage of the historic Build Back Better Act:

“I am pleased that President Biden’s transformative legislation for American working families has passed the House chamber. The $1.75 trillion Build Back Better Act fights inflation by lowering everyday costs that are currently burdening hardworking families, such as lowering the costs of health care and child care.

“We are still experiencing the impacts of a pandemic economy, and together, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill, which was recently signed into law, and the Build Back Better Act will bring more Americans into the labor force and increase the supply of good paying jobs. These are necessary investments to creating a foundation for strong economic growth.

“For the first time in history, American families will have universal preschool – but the bill does not just stop there. The Build Back Better Act cuts taxes for millions of middle-class families, expands the coverage of the Affordable Care Act, provides more affordable housing, lowers prescription drug costs, and is the largest effort to combat climate change in history.

“This bill will impact the lives of millions of New Yorkers and Americans across the country – this is how we build back better. I look forward to the bill’s passage in the Senate and its signage into law.”
