Congressman Gregory W. Meeks Statement on the Second Anniversary of the Jan. 6 Assault on the U.S. Capitol

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Gregory W. Meeks (NY-05) issued the following statement on the second anniversary of the deadly assault on our nation’s capitol:
“Today is a very somber day for Americans. Two years ago, a deadly attack was incited on the U.S. Capitol, the Congress, and the Constitution. The insurrection led by MAGA extremists was a direct assault on our Democracy. On this day, I stand united with Leader Hakeem Jeffries and my Democratic colleagues against the truth-deniers who directly enabled the violent attack.”
“As we honor the brave heroes of Jan. 6 who protected the Capitol, we also remember the five police officers who lost their lives and the more than 140 individuals who were injured defending Democracy. It is our duty to the Constitution and the Country that another assault on our Democracy never happens again.”
“The U.S. Capitol is recognized globally as a symbol of Democracy. It is our obligation to ensure its resilience and that Congress will never be deterred from its work For The People.”
