Congressman Gregory W. Meeks Statement on the 50th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Gregory W. Meeks (NY-05) released the following statement on the 50th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court case that decriminalized abortion nationwide:
“Today, I recognize the 50th anniversary of the landmark Roe v. Wade decision. For 49 years, it guaranteed persons from all backgrounds access to comprehensive and medically necessary healthcare.
“Last year, the Supreme Court delivered on extreme MAGA Republicans’ agenda to strip a woman’s right to make her own choice about her healthcare. House Republicans have doubled down on this agenda by passing a bill that’s an anti-abortion attack on both women and healthcare providers in the first month of the 118th Congress.
“House Democrats have consistently passed legislation to codify the Roe decision and protect a doctor’s ability to provide abortion services. We stand committed to continue the fight for reproductive freedom and ensure abortion access in this country is legal, affordable, and accessible.”
