Information regarding my stance on Tax Reform issues.
“I have long supported an extension of a year-long payroll tax cut for American families, as well as the extension of vital unemployment insurance benefits. I voted for this bill today because of the help these extensions will provide to 160 million Americans, but I am disappointed that the conference committee charged with the task of crafting this deal chose to pay for it by slashing federal employee benefits and targeting healthcare funds.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Reps. Gregory W. Meeks (D-NY-05), Gwen Moore (D-WI-4) and Lloyd Smucker (R-PA-11) introduced the Survivor Justice Tax Prevention Act. This legislation will amend the nation’s tax code to ensure survivors of sexual abuse and unwanted and illegal sexual contact do not have to pay taxes on settlement income when they prevail legally against their abuser. The Members introduced this legislation during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
