Washington, D.C. – Today, Reps. Gregory W. Meeks (NY-05), Shontel Brown (OH-11), André Carson (IN-07) joined by Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ), introduced a bicameral Resolution recognizing the extraordinary contributions of Black music to America’s cultural and artistic heritage. The Resolution also calls attention to the importance of equitable access to music education for Black students and supports the designation of June 2025 as Black Music Month.

Rangel, who represented New York’s 13th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives for nearly 50 years. His congressional career included a Chairmanship tenure on the influential Ways and Means Committee and countless legislative achievements.

Meeks, Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and Zoe Lofgren, Ranking Member of the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, sent a letter to Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick raising concerns over reports that the Department of Commerce may withdraw from critical multilateral agreements aimed at restricting access to critical technologies.
