Rep. Meeks Statement on Comey Memo

May 17, 2017

"Despite mounting concerns, Republicans have yet to agree to the American people’s demands for a special prosecutor. I plead with my colleagues on the other side of the aisle, put country above party and protect our democracy.”

Rep. Meeks Statement on Comey Memo

Washington, D.C.—Congressman Gregory W. Meeks released the following statement after reports surfaced that FBI Director James Comey wrote a memo noting that President Trump asked him to end the independent federal investigation into former Trump National Security Advisory Michael T. Flynn:

"If true, the multiple news reports that President Trump sought to halt the FBI's independent investigation of Michael Flynn are beyond disturbing, and detail possible obstruction of justice. It was troubling enough when recent reports indicated that President Trump asked for Director Comey to pledge loyalty to him above all else. It was downright alarming when President Trump fired Director Comey for continuing his investigation into possible collusion, as the President himself would later admit. And it was further troubling when less than a day later, the President shared highly classified intelligence with the Russians.
