Meeks Issues Statement Regarding Julian Assange

April 12, 2019

Washington, DC - Today, Congressman Gregory Meeks, senior Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement regarding the arrest of Julian Assange:

"There is no question that the actions of Julian Assange and Wikileaks has directly compromised U.S. intelligence and our national security. Not only were Assange's actions dangerous, they worked to advanced Russian interests by selectively releasing classified information obtained by the FSB to compromise our most sacred of institutions, our free and fair elections.

With Wikileaks' purported impartiality as a whistleblowing operation now discredited and Assange in custody, one of Russia's principle tools for meddling in our 2016 elections is now disarmed. I thank Ecuadorian President Moreno for giving Mr. Assange no harbor; It is now time for Mr. Assange's to be extradited to the United States so that he can be brought to justice for his actions."
